DAY 3: 2008 Microsoft Office System Developer Conference

Tags:

The funniest part of the day there is nothing funny about attending sessions early in the am after attending one of the Microsoft Parties especially when Creative Maven plans them, ouch…..

The most fun The most fun (I guess it was like Juicy Fruit or somethin (twice the fun)) was hangin with Jim Duncan from SharedSquared and Collusions though I wasn’t with him when he won a radio controlled GP Bike (Dude this guy wins everything). Later that night after Dinner @ Original Joes, I luv that place…. We raced the bike up and down the street in front of his house in San Jose. Well we mostly crashed into cars and set off car alarms. I think I came to the conclusion that you need two bikes one to crash and burn and another to show off…. But im still thinkn, lol… Does that mean you can skip QA??? or never get to PROD...

The sessions I attended were the following....

RLW303 Building High Performance Solutions on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 - Andrew Connell

Performance should be one of the top areas of focus on everyone's mind when embarking on a Internet facing Microsoft Office Server 2007 site. In this session we'll look at the built-in caching capabilities added to the latest release of the SharePoint platform, including disk-based and page output caching. In addition we'll take a look at various hot-button issues developers should be aware of when developing components for a public site built on MOSS 2007. Topics include object model techniques, how to properly manage memory to avoid the dreaded OutOfMemory exception, key sizing numbers to keep in mind when architecting your implementation and minimizing the page payload to speed up those page load times. After this session, you'll be armed with the power to create high performance and scalable solutions in MOSS 2007.

ARC303 Building Collaborative BPM Solutions- John Holliday

This session will cover best practices for leveraging the Microsoft BPM platform offerings (Windows Workflow Foundation, BizTalk, SharePoint Workflow, and Windows Communication Foundation) to integrate comprehensive Business Process Management (BPM) capabilities into Business Solutions built on the Microsoft Office Platform/System. This session will help the audience gain a broad perspective of the BPM scenarios targeted by each component and will offer prescriptive guidance on choosing the right option(s) to address common solution requirements. This session will also show how the various components can interplay and add value to Office Business Applications.

ARC304 Extending the reach of Business Intelligence Solutions: Delivering on the premise of BI for the Masses

Topics covered will include prescriptive guidance on addressing requirements pertaining to operational, tactical, and strategic BI. Solution demonstrations will be used extensively to re-enforce the concepts discussed.

The good news is I got a couple of extra t-shirts with the Blue MonsterMicrosoft, Change the World or GO Home” check out  http://gapingvoid.com. The rest of the time I was on the phone with clients oh did I tell ya how to break the My Site RSS Feed reader using a WSS SP1 Blog Site as the feed?

OverAll Observations

We deserve better backpacks… But seriously folks we deserve a backpack that wasn’t on sale a the $.99 store, that gets trashed on planes, trains, automibiles, mopeds, dirtbikes etc…. and is still kickin the last decent one you could use in real life, were the PDC BackPacks of 2005, but the ones from PDC 2003 were even better Longhorn rocks. Speaking of Real World! Andrew Connell, Christophe Fiessinger, and Ted Pattison  have my vote for the REAL WORLD if you really want to know how to design, build, deploy….

Most folks never mentioned a couple of the last words of the last sentence of my last blog on the ODC of 2008… These Guys ROCK!!!!!! Thank you Microsoft!

That’s All Folks…….
