The funniest part of the day was definitely the Video on Microsoft  heroes (HHH) a takeoff from the Budweiser commercial

The most fun The Party @ the Tech Museum with the group Vau De Vire Society seriously kicked butt.  Thank you to Heather Newman for organizing the event as Head Maven of Creative Maven

The sessions I attended were the following....

SER309 - Customizing the Project Web Access User Interface

Since Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services V3 are tightly coupled, you can now more easily customize the Project Web Access (PWA) interface. Despite the tight integration of WSS V3 with Project Server not all of the customizations that can be done in WSS V3 apply to Project Web Access. This session will discuss how to leverage the underlying infrastructure of Windows SharePoint Services to customize and extend PWA with emphasis on the differences between WSS V3 customization and Project Web Access customizations. Topics include customizations of site definitions...

CLI304 - Developing document centric solutions using Open XML and VSTO 3.0

One of the most pervasive and important technologies today, but also one that is not often recognized as such, is that of the written word. The written word has allowed us to store information for continuously longer periods of time, and as such forms the primary container for exchanging and storing information. There are few organizations where documents are not essential to their business process. Being such an important part of doing business, many people spend a large part of their day either authoring or processing documents. Combined with the move from paper-based to documents that never...

SER314 - Creating projects in Project Server using Forms Server and WinWF

Project initiation phase is different for every customers and organizations. It typically requires a set of custom attribute to be filled in a form and then it needs to go through an approval process workflow reviewed by all key decision makers. This session will demonstrate how to define a project using Forms Server and the Project Server Interface as well as how to leverage Windows Workflow Foundation to introduce business workflows into the.  This scenario can be extended to any metadata definition in a Project Server deployment, for instance resource custom fields and look up table definition...

CLI307 - Generating Enterprise Content using InfoPath 2007, SharePoint and the Microsoft SDK for Office Open XML Formats

This session will introduce the Microsoft SDK for Open XML formats and show how developers can use the SDK and InfoPath 2007 to generate Microsoft Office documents on the server from data stored in SharePoint form libraries.

SER313 - SharePoint Search and OfficeSolutions.

When putting together Office applications it’s important to consider more than just filling out the form, creating the document, and saving it.  You should also consider how are you going to search for - and find the information in those forms later.  Learn a cradle to grave process for developing a Word form, creating a content type in SharePoint, and connecting these so that you can do a search in SharePoint for forms based on one of the pieces of metadata on the form.

Note: The sessions I attended did not include the packaging solutions WSPs. However, the project server folks used deployment scripts for adding features and assemblies to the GAC…

Today, at the Office Developers Conference in San Jose, we announced the public availability of VSeWSS 1.1 (download). This final version fixes lots of bugs from the CTP, many of which were customer reported (thanks!). It also adds a couple cool new features, namely Visual Basic support and the ability to create new "Features" in WSP View.

VSeWSS Overview

In case you are not familiar with VSeWSS, you can learn more about it here. In a nutshell, VSeWSS is an add-on to Visual Studio that makes it easier to code-up solutions for SharePoint (e.g. Web Parts, List Definitions, Site Definitions, etc). With version 1.1 of VSeWSS, our main objective is to address the community feedback we got from the first release of VSeWSS, with a particular focus on giving developers "more control" :).

What's New in VSeWSS 1.1?

  • "WSP View", aka "Solution Package editing"
    • No more hidden, non-editable solution content!
    • Create new Features
    • Reorder Elements between Features
    • Conflict validation against existing Features
    • Rename existing Features
    • Change Feature activation order
  • Visual Basic support!
  • New Item Templates:
    • "List Instance" project item
    • "List Event Handler" project item
    • “SharePoint Template” item template, e.g. "layouts" files
  • Faster F5 speed (The tool no longer performs an IISReset. Now it only recycles the app pool.)
  • Solution Generator: you can now choose which lists should be included when exporting a site.
  • Many bug fixes, e.g.
    • No more GUIDs in Feature Names
    • Support complex project names, e.g. with periods.
    • Can deploy assemblies to the bin folder, instead of GAC

As always SharePoint ROCKS!!! and I hope if you couldn’t make the ODC2008 you make it to the Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2008 and I hope to see you there... Lastly thank you Microsoft for bringing the team down to make it happen
